Sad Times Indeed

Damn, we could not even get the Holiday Bowl,...that went to those darn Aggies. The Cotton Bowl in Dallas...the Cornhuskers will represent the Big 12. What did we get...we are going to the Alamo Bowl :( up the road in San Antonio to play 6-6 Iowa Sate (who probably has a better chance at winning than we do). Well, Mack Brown has really outdone himself. First he made a promise to Vince Young (if Young chose to come to Texas) that he would not recruit another quarter back, and Vince left with one year of eligibility to go. At that time we had a red shirt freshman in Colt McCoy, and a true freshman in Jevan Snead. Well by default, McCoy became our man. He played like a freshman, against Ohio State, however, he redeemed himself with his play in later games. There was even a brief mention of his name in regards to the hoopla that is the Heisman Trophy. However, with a trip to Manhattan KS to play Kansas State, all things seem to fall apart. It was the first drive of the game, the down was 4th and goal, and Brown decided to go for it. Yeah, I thought, he actually grabbed his nutz and manned up for a change, but the play he called was not appropriate. Now if we have big 6’5 200 and something lbs Vince Young, then yes, it would have been the right call to have the quarter back keep the ball. However, we have little skinny Colt McCoy. He put his shoulder down, moved forward, got into the end zone (which had to be reviewed and is still up for debate). However, something went very wrong on that play. Our QB, our second coming since Vince Young (yeah, I never belived that) was hurt. Now what are we to do? Well, we had to play Jevan Snead, the freshman backup that has taken limited snaps. The outcome of the game 42-45 K-State. Everyone in Burnt Orange land wants to have Snead’s head. Why he did his job? With him in as QB we put 35 points on the board. Now the defense on the other hand…fell asleep at their job. The defense gave up 45 damn points. Our Achilles heel was now revealed…we could not defend the pass. We gave up big plays down field and it cost us the game. 2 weeks later, our biggest rival, the hated Aggies, come into town. This should have been a rout based on hatred alone…yet, we did not want it enough, we did not rise to the occasion. Add that to the fact that Mack Brown chose to go with McCoy, an injured QB that was not at 100% did not help our chances either. Why did he not play Snead? McCoy was intercepted 4 times during that game, it was apparent that his shoulder was bothering him…take him out. But no, they chose to keep him in, and what happens…he was injured. His injury would be in vain, because we lost that game 12-7. Now, McCoy is hurt, and his injury may be more than season ending…there is talk that it is career ending, and Snead requests to be allowed to transfer. Do you blame him…I don’t. Snead is released from his scholarship and we have NO quarterback going into the Alamo Bowl. Well we have a third string guy, but he does not know the offense. Greg Davis (our hated offensive co-coordinator) is talking about moving over one of the receivers either Cosby or Pittman who both played QB in HS. This is one hella hot mess we have down here in Austin TX. The Damn Alamo Bowl…word on the street is I can probably get a ticket for $30.
