A Year Later

It’s been a long day and it just got started…

I woke up at 3:30 this morning, and had the hardest time getting back to sleep because I have so many things on my mind. Its storm season, but no time for pity parties. I just celebrated a birthday and I have too much to be thankful for, however, it’s easy to lose sight of that when you are going through. I was going through the archives and came across my post for June 30, 2007…I think it is also fitting for June 30, 2008…

This morning I woke up with a sound mind and healthy body, I could not help but to thank God.

This morning I spotted a homeless man on the corner. I sat in my car watching him…he had a sign that read “Native American”, here he was begging for change, yet he looked dignified, even regal. Then, I thought about my life, and although to some I might not have much, I have been blessed. I thought about home, it might not be much, its home, and I could not help but to thank God. I thought about the very car I sat in, although not a luxury sedan, it serves its purpose…I could have been watching him from the bus stop. I reached in my purse pulled out a dollar and waved it to get his attention, as I handed him the dollar he said “God bless you and may you be safe”, I could feel the sincerity and I felt blessed in that moment…that costs much more than a dollar.

This morning I talked to my niece, I love to hear her laugh. She has been a pillar of strength in my life, she has taught be what strength is all about. Ironic, I find strength in a 9 year old. She has endured so much, yet she continues on rarely complaining. Today she is healthy and strong, no pain crisis, and it has been over a year since her last hospitalization…I could not help but to thank God.

This morning was not a guarantee, and neither is the next, but every morning that I am able to awake to the shining sun, I can’t help but to thank God.

It is so easy to get caught up in the negatives…what you should have, what you don’t have…however, when I stop and reflect, I realize that it could be a lot worse, and blessing are not necessarily measured by material possessions.

When I look at his creation, when I think of all that I DO have, when I reflect upon how my life is moving on and upward, I cannot help but to thank God.

Happy Birthday To Me!

Another dollar another day…another June 25th another birthday!

I love my birthday, it’s my favorite annual holiday. Yep, I guess I am just that self centered. Celebrate with me, eat some cake, drink some bubbly, shake a tail feather…make it a good one!

I'm bored...

And boredom typically leads to mischief in my world...idle hands...

I think I might pass out? Why do you ask? Because I am sitting at my desk sucking my stomach in tightly…trying to get an ab workout in…but do you really want to know what’s the best ab workout? You really don’t have to ask that do you?

I had baked potato soup topped with cheddar cheese and bacon bits for lunch…it was good…I also had two mini turkey and swiss sandwiches, they were pretty good too. Now after eating this banana, I just want to go home and take a nap.

I try drinking water, but I can’t…that stuff is just nasty…it taste all bitter, or it tasted soapy, or it taste rusty…now matter what the taste, it’s all nastee!

I need to figure out how I want to allocate my 401K, what percentage I want in this fund vs. the next…guess I will have to contact the ex-boyfriend…since this is what he does for a living…and I am sure he will be happy to oblige…men like to feel needed.

So, I hope that he does not expect me to run behind his azz…I guess he did not get the memo…and I hope that he does not expect me to run behind his azz either…yes two different he’s…but apparently neither he knows about me...I can’t be bothered.

I am happy that I have a strong sense of self, and I do not wrap my identity and self worth around some man…if he leaves, I might be shook…but I will not be broken…I love me too much to allow that. And I really need my friends to stop comparing my situation with theirs…yes he left…yes I was hurt…yes it sucked…BUT…my world did not fall apart…why? Because my world never revolved around him…which is probably the reason he left…ultimately, I don’t think he could handle my strength and independence…the things that attracted him, were essentially the things that he could not get pass. His bad.

What?! Milk and Cookies? I think I might take a scoop of vanilla on a cake cone instead, lol.

So…I think it’s about time for a PBJ eating contest…I have two, possibly three contestants that are down right now…ha…and if your mind is in the gutter…you are right!

I hope he does not think I've forgotten that he owes me a Brazilian wax...

It’s going down in 2 more days…

It's Juneteenth

July 4th is all good...but this day signifies independence for me and my ancestors...my great great grandmother who passed at age 110 in June 1995, was born to a slave...it does not go too far back...

"The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and free laborer."

Juneteenth is a celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.

8 days and counting…

I think I might take the plunge into the 21st century and get myself a cell phone for my birthday…I don’t really want to do it…but I am tired of people complaining because they can’t text me, and they don’t have access to me when I am away, unless I call them and give a number where I can be reached…that’s one of the main reasons I don’t have a cell…I don’t need folks having that kinda access to me…and for the most part, I probably will not answer anyway…especially if folks start calling me during the day all wheelie kneelie.

I found a LG phone for $29.99 with a new 2yr Sprint contract...with the option for a $49.99 equipment protection…so…who wants to put $80 in my account so I can go head on with the plan…I mean, I will be responsible for paying the monthly bill myself. ..And the more that I think of it…creating another bill for myself is far from a gift.

Swagger Is Everything!

There is nothing sexier on a man than confidence…I like that borderline arrogant confidence.

Stuff like poppin his collar at me then walking off…leave me hanging, tease me…that’s what I’m talking ;bout.

The men that I am attracted to…they all have something in common…what is it you ask…

It’s that SWAGGER…

I mean, what other reason would make me want to throw the draws at Lil Wayne…

Damn I hate a shy bitch

Don't you hate a shy bitch?

Yeah, I ate a shy bitch...

She ain't shy no mo, she changed her name to my bitch…

I love it…

I have been told that I like a bad boy…but you know what…”bad boys” like me…well not really bad boys, but confident, overly confident, arrogant men like me…why? Because I have an ego bigger than theirs…I pose a challenge to most…a lesser man finds me intimidating, and I gots no time for that…I need a man that can hang…I like the man that comes up to me, will not say a word, but will talk to me with his eyes…I like the man that is bold enough to assume that I want him in my space…if not, I will let him know he can kick rocks…and probably not be too nice about it…

A friend once told me, “I don’t know what it is about you, but you always seem to pull that nigga that everybody else wants”…well I will let you in on a little secret…my boy Wheezy said it best…”Lil Mama got a swag like mine”…Game recognizes game…I attract what I am…I be the ish!

Barack Obama hopes for change…

I pray for change…

Now that he has secured the nom, I would like him to drop the yes we can..."can" is not an action word...now "will" that's an action word.

It's time to move forward...I would also like him to sharpen up on his policies...be able to communicate them in a debate against McCain without a ummm, uhhh, or a stutter...

There is still a lot of work to be done, I hope that his supporters do not become complacent because he has won the nom...

I had a busy weekend…I was in downtown Austin for the State Democratic Convention at 6am on Friday June 5th…I did not leave until 2am Sat June 6th…and we had yet to complete all orders of business on the agenda for the day. I was back at 11am on Sat, and I left at 5pm…all of the voting was completed so I went ahead and called it a day.

There were a number of "us" at the TX state convention on Friday...not too many of us returned on Saturday.

There were also local blacks running on a platform of "change" but they did not say anything, they do not have any experience of public service...
They were all fluff no substance...this is what scares me...it only takes one to fuk it up...we don't need these undeserving folks to feel that because Barack Obama has secured the nom, that we are entitled to positions because we are persons of color...

I was turned off by “us”, you know…black people would look me in the face, I would smile and give the obligatory head nod, and they would not speak back…why you ask? Well, they would look at the African Americans for Hillary button on my shirt (yes Hillary still has her delegates, no need to give them up, he has the nom…and if you know your facts you will know she is not the first and will not be the last to hold on to her delegates…especially in tight race…but moving on) or maybe it was the green sticker on my credentials badge noting I was a Hillary delegate…either way, our people were ugly towards me…I had them coming up to me asking me how and why I could vote for her, when I would try to respond, I would hear, you know you can’t talk to them Hillary people…not to mention, for some reason we as a whole, seemed to not be able to do things decently and in order. We sat in seats reserved for other individuals…OH! I was hot…I had a woman tell me and a 65 yr old man to sit in the back…I was like, I don’t think so, these seats are reserved for our senate district. They had the nerve to put styrofoam to go boxes, purses, and junk on the row to hold it for their peeps. I approached a gentleman that seemed to look as though he had sense, and asked, “Why did you think it was ok for you to sit here”…He tried to give a reason, but …I said, “This is really bothering me, we always seem to mess things up for everyone, why can we never do things decent and in order”. He then responded with, “You are right, got up, and gave two seats to these young ladies who were sitting on the floor.”

Also, the black caucus meeting was the only one with a cover fee…will not really. We were in line and the lady yelled out “If you have your pay pal receipt get in line here”. So, I asked how much was the ticket, she said $35…so we bounced and went to the women’s caucus meeting. I later was informed that the $35 fee was for a breakfast fundraiser, which was for the first hour and a half, and the actual meeting was to convene after that…but for some reason, that was never clearly communicated. I was also told by members of my senate district that the meeting was a mess…

WE NEED TO GET IT TOGETHER!

A 55 year old black man approached me and asked, “Why Hillary”. I respectfully replied, “I could ask you why Obama, but instead I will tell you why Hillary. “ I started talking policy, and I could see he was impressed…he then asked me when did I jump on the Hillary bandwagon. I laughed and informed him, that I am not on a bandwagon…as emotional and passionate as I may be, I actually am pretty calculated and analytical when it comes to politics…I told him, that I wanted to grow up to be the first female president of the United States, but when Bill won the white house in 1992, I then resolved to become the first black female president of the United States…right then and there I knew that I wanted Hillary to hold that position…sooner than later. So, we chatted and became friends. I begin to campaign for him to receive a spot as a national delegate…he has been an active democrat going back to 1984, he missed out on the chance to go to the national convention then, at age 55 he felt it was time…and I agreed. He knows some people of influence locally (mostly fellow Hillary delegates), and he introduced me to them, describing me as sharp, and what our party needs going forward. He said that if I ever wanted to run for local office, these were the people I needed to know. They invited me out to the Progressive Democrats meeting, and he will forward me more information regarding when and where they meet…It’s all about networking, but most importantly…we were able to respect each other’s differences because at the end of the day, we are all on the same team…team blue! He did ask me if my mother was upset that I voted for Hillary…my response, “ Why would my mother be upset at me for making my own decisions?”. I talked to my mother last night, and asked “Were you upset that I did not vote for Obama in the primary?”. She said what I already knew, “No, why would I be upset at you for following your mind and making your own choice”. I love my mother…she is the reason I am me.

Hillary sent Chelsea Clinton to represent her…let’s just say, there is power in the Clinton name...given that our State Senate District was the host site, we had the best seats in the house…we had so many folks (Hillary and Obama supporters alike) bum rushing us to get a closer look, to be able to snap a pic…and once she started to speak, they still would not sit down…the entire hall was in an uproar once she approached the podium…Shelia Jackson Lee was at her side ( that’s my girl, I was hoping she would speak as well)…she gave a gracious, energetic, yet quick speech…and that was the highlight of the night.

Obama sent the gov. of VA to speak on his behalf…can we say “yawn”. He was not engaging, the 83 year old first time delegate (who was an Obama delegate) turned to me and asked, “Who is this man again?”. I could not help but laugh. And you know, back to Doris…she was full of tenacity, 83 years old, had never been this involved in the process, and felt that there was no time like the present…this illustrates that there are no need for excuses, never too late to get involved.

Oh, and btw, on day two I wore both an Obama and a Hillary button…it’s time to unify! I don't know about you, but I don't think I can make it through 4 more years of a GOP administration.

I also wore a button that read, “I think, therefore I vote Democrat!” I wanted to buy a button that read “Love a democrat, because who has ever heard of a nice piece of elephant” but I thought that might be a bit crass…there was another one that read, “I only sleep with democrats”, but I decided to pass on that as well, lol.

I met some interesting people, made some new true blue friends, and I feel as though this is only the beginning for me.

Oh yeah…my mother dropped a bomb on me…she told me that Dr. Ron Paul was her obgyn while she was carrying me…he was supposed to deliver me, but he went out of town and I was delivered by his back up instead…maybe that was a blessing in disguise…lol Don’t get me wrong, I actually agree with some of his stances on the issues…but I think he is a whack job, lol.

2009, The End of an Error!

I have a very important announcement…

My birthday is in 23 days! Yay! No, I will not be counting down everyday…but you can’t say that you have not been given notice.

So…this guy sends me an email in response to a job posting and for some reason he thought it would be a good idea to introduce himself to me as an alcoholic. This guy is a member of Mensa…I guess what my dad use to say is right…the smarter you are the dumber you are…meaning, those with a high IQ tend to lack common knowledge…I guess the brain can only hold so much crap.

So, I put in a few phone calls to this guy, and he has not returned my call. I am so annoyed, but the thing is, I don’t even want him like that…I am trying to talk bizness, I am trying to make moves, and he's sitting there too stuck on himself to realize it. No time for the ho-ish.

I cannot live without paper towels…I use them for everything…I wash dishes with them, I use them to eat off of, I clean the bathroom and kitchen with them…and we are out of paper towels in the office…I use them to wipe down my desk, clean out my dishes when I am done, wipe down that nasty azz counter because I apparently work with toddlers…there are cheerios chilling in one of the break room chairs…I mean seriously…needless to say…I am at my wits end…I need some paper towels pronto!

I can’t believe I actually said if given the option between Nelly and AI…Nelly could get it first…see, *I’ve been feeling since 1993 when he was a Hoya, before the braids, before the tatts…I love me some AI…but have you seen Nelly lately?! Dayum! Just one time…but he seems to leave a trail of babies behind him…so on second thought…

I have this image in my head that I just can’t shake…don’t wanna shake…will not shake…man, I love football!

Ok…enough of that…

And in case you missed it the first time…

My birthday is in 23 days!
