5 Things about Me!

1. I’m a child of the 80’s…I can’t help it. Although I am very intune with Today’s pop culture…Give me Luther Vandross, Prince and “Coming to America” any day.

2. I love ice cream, but not any ice cream…It has to be Blue Bell homemade Vanilla. All that expensive mess has not met approval by my taste pallets.

3. If it’s black I will buy it. Shoes, handbags, blouses, skirts, pants…if it is black then I want it in my closet. I like to have a basic wardrobe that I can personalize with funky accessories.

4. I am single, and to my married friends it’s almost like I have a fungus or something. I am not looking for a man either. I have a man in my life that I love deeply…but we are just not there yet, and maybe never will be. (This statement may come as a shock to my friends, but then again, probably not!)

5. People think I am mean…that is before they truly get to know me. I am not mean, either I like you or I don’t. If I don’t…then I have nothing for you.

Most Over-rated Chick in the Game

Yeah, I said it. I think I am the only one with this sentiment, but Kelis has not impressed me. She has no rhythm and her vocals are seriously lacking. "Caught out There" was my jam, but she has not shown me anything to make me think that she is hot. I don't find her original, everything about her is contrived. What is up with that grill?!? And the "Diamond on my neck, Diamond on my grill" line is from Smitty. Not too mention that the "Real girls get down on the floor" line is straight from Big Bun and Pimp C. I know that all artist draw inspiration from others, but it's funny how she claims to be so "original". I'm the first to do this and that...puh-lease. There is nothing new under the sun. Also her look right now is very reminiscent of Sheila E. Call it hating, but I've noticed that she receives a lot of love on blogs, while other artist (Ummm Beyonce)are just thrown hate. Why is that? Is there not enough room for both ladies? But I for one, don't see Kelis's appeal. Good thing Short Dawg came onto the stage to save this dying performance of "Bossy".

Now Shelia E...that's what I would call "Bossy"

I guess I'm too old school.

How could I forget about this?

The craziest thing happened Monday evening, and I completely forgot about it until I woke up this morning. By now I am sure that most have heard (or at least heard of) the phone call from Samuel L. Jackson promoting his movie “Snakes on a Plane”. Well, this weekend I sent the message to every that I knew…except my mother. The following are the reasons that I thought she would find it offensive:

1. He says the word damn.
2. It’s about “Snakes on a Plane”, and snakes are evil. Satan appeared in the form of a serpent to tempt Eve.
3. He says “For God’s Sake” Oooohh, that is the ultimate no-no, we do not use God’s name in vain.

Well, I went against my better judgment and sent the message to my mother this past Monday around 6pm. She missed the call and called me back an hour later (without checking her vm) to see if I had called her. I told her “No, it was somebody else, you should have a message”. She let me know that she will check her message and I told her I will call her later. Well, I thought the fact that I told her that someone else called and should have left her a message was clue enough that I had something to do with all this. Not too mention that my cell phone number is the number that displayed as the missed called. Well, I was leaving Target at 10pm and I decided to check with Momma to see if she received her call. She answers her phone in a very frantic voice “Keli (pronounced key-lee) I can’t talk right now, momma will have to call you back” and hangs up the phone. I am thinking to myself, “Ok that was strange, what is going on there”. Being that I found her behavior to be odd I called right back. “Keli Vernee (pronounced ver-nay) momma can’t talk right now, let me call you back”. At this point, I am really nervous and wondering what the heck is up (being that we don’t reside in the same city).

Well…

My mother calls me back about 15mins later and the conversation went something like this.
“Did you send me some crazy message from a computer?”
I start laughing and say “Yes, it was a message from Samuel…” Before I could get the rest out I hear…
“That was not funny. I just left the police station, I took my phone to the cops to let them here that message because I did not know what was going on. I thought it was a death threat. That man knew that I was in Pharmaceuticals, he knew that I wore glasses, and he even called my car a tin can (she drives a 1994 Maxima)”.
I am like geeking for real, and asked “Did you listen to the entire message?”
“Yes, I did listen to the entire message, and he said that I will kill you”.
“Did you not hear him say, “Pick up your Daughter, Keli”.
Yes, but he said Kelly, and your name is Keli, so that threw me off even more".
“Momma I’m sorry” trying to hold back my laughter, “ I did not mean to scare you”.
I then hear my dad yelling in the background “That shit wasn’t funny!”
“Momma, I’m sorry, I did not realize that it would scare you. I sent it to several people (including aunts and uncles) and they all seemed to think it was hilarious”.
“Well, it was not, and the police officer thought it was funny too. He had a little smirk on his face when he informed me that it was for a movie”.
“What did he say” I asked.
“He said, “Ma’am, that is Samuel L. Jackson talking about his movie, Snakes on a Plane”.
My Dad was initially defending my mom, but then I hear him give his final two cents.
“You should have known that is was Keli with that crazy shit, who else would do something like that.”
At this point I can not help but laugh out loud.
“Momma you need to calm down, you are just too high strung”.
“Did you just call you mother high strung!”
And on that note, she was mad. I think I have just solidified my position as the bad daughter. I called her Tuesday morning to make sure she was not still mad, and to try and make up if she was. She informed me that she was never angry with me, she just did not find it funny. She also said that next time something like this happens, she will call me first, before jumping to conclusions. I then informed her that there will not be a next time, that she has been removed from the send list. My dad was mad as hell…he was the one that had to drive her to the police station, and he does not deal with the po-po’s.

I had noooo idea that a joke would turn into a terror alert code red.

What's going On?

I really don't have much going on right now. I have been keeping myself entertained by reading everyone else's blogs. I am getting my last two wisdom teeth extracted tomorrow. If I would have known then what I know now, I would have just let the oral surgeon cut all four out of my mouth then. The first time around I did not have any difficulties and I was eating pork chops the same day. He only removed two b/c the teeth on the right side of my mouth had completely grown in and where not causing any shifting or crowding of my teeth. Well, I brush regularly (at least 2x a day), however, it seems that my remaining wisdom teeth are forming cavities. I am squeamish, and I am having the Dr. use a local anesthesia. From what I have been told, I will hear some sawing and cracking, and I don't know about all that. I don't drink, and I do not like taking medication that will make me not feel like myself. The first time around I did not even take the pain medication. This time I was given a prescription for Vicadin, but I did not even get it filled. The last thing I need is to develop a habit, due to a dental procedure.

Oh yeah, and it seems that my neighbor the stalker has backed off a bit. Just as I type this he is probably planning his next attack.

Stay tuned...

Bug-A-Boo!

Ok, if you read the last post you know that my neighbor (Who Shall Remain Nameless) has become somewhat of a nuisance. However, last night homeboy took the insanity to an all time high. Today is apparently his birthday, and for some reason he got it in his head that I would want to spend the day with him. He knocked on my door this past Thursday (I had only been home from work like 15mins)and I did not answer. Last night around 9pm I left my apartment, and when I returned at 11:30 pm I hear "Hi Neighbor". This all too familiar voice seemed to come from behind the bushes. I turned around to see HWSRN standing in the pool area (I always park near the pool. He was sitting out by the pool waiting for me to return home. He mentioned that he looked out his window and did not see my car anymore. He then informed me that he knocked on my door the other day, and had the nerve to say that he did not knock again because he did not want to be a bug-a-boo. Well to late "You a bug-a-boo...you buggin who...you buggin me and you know it ain't cool."

Well, apparently HWSRN took it upon himself to buy 2 tickets to Schlitterbahn Waterpark for the day. He assumed that I wanted to get in car with him, take an hour and a half ride, and spend the day with him because it is his birthday. Stop the Insanity!

Somebody's Watching Me!

When is it crossing the line of being a friendly neighbor to just down right stalker?

This guy moved into the apartment next to me this past May. The first time I saw him was on Labor Day walking up the stairs as I was going down, with baby mama and kids in tow. After this occurrence, I noticed that he would open his door as I was approaching the top of the stairs, peep out, and then abruptly close the door (probably because I was giving him one of my “What the hell do you want" looks). About a month ago on a Friday at approximately 10:30pm , he opened the door as I was approaching the top of stairs tugging groceries. He said “I knocked on your door last night but I guess you were not home”. I then gave him my “why in the hell are you knocking on my door" look and he proceeded to tell me that he wanted to make sure that his music was not that loud because some one had complained. I informed him that if it were too loud I would let him know, and then he proceeded to try to make small talk. But actually all he succeeded to do was weird me out. He informed me that he has been watching my coming and goings and that he has noticed I am never home. He also made a comment about my friend, Calvin who was with me the first day I saw him with baby mama and kids in tow. I gave him this look of bewilderment because I forgot all about that day and was trying to recall what he was talking about…so he pretty much he took that as “Calvin could not have been my man”. I was trying to be neighborly and had a brief conversation with him, but I had a handful of groceries that I needed to put away, so I politely excused myself and went inside my apartment. 5 mins later I hear a knock on my door, I am on the phone with my mother and I let her know that she is not to hang up…I answer the door and of course it’s my neighbor (Who Shall Remain Nameless) asking me if I have a burner. I am now giving him my “Yeah, but you can’t borrow it” look and he then says “Oh no, I don’t want to use it, I just have a lot of cd’s and you can come over and see if there are any you would like to burn”. I gave him a thumbs up, waved good-bye and closed the door.

Since this first incident HWSRN has knocked on my door on several occasions. He has even gone as far as asking me if I work 2 jobs because I never seem to be at home. He has invited me over several times to watch movies, but the problem is he waits until an inappropriate hour to knock on my door, and he always seems to have an alcoholic beverage in hand. I’ve asked if I could borrow the movie when he’s done, but this does not seem to be acceptable…he wants me to step inside his space to watch ATL…I don’t even like TI, so my thought to that is Hell to the Naw! I do not find this brotha attractive and he is really weirding me out. Brotha even asked me if I would go to the new spot in town if he paid my cover, and had the nerve to tell me that I am not black “my skin is, but not on the inside”, because I am not attracted to his gold fronts and raggedy azz Cadillac! On my first encounter with HWSRN he told me that “I looked out of his league and he was afraid to talk to me” Well, I don’t know when he drank his cup of courage (maybe that’s why he always has the alcohol in hand when knocking on my door), but he was right, I am out of his league, and I really do need him to leave me alone. My friends tell me not to open the door, but I really do not want homeboy to start acting crazy and overly aggressive. Stalking is not going to make me come around, but it may force me to have to get a restraining order!

Hopefully HWSRN is not Internet savvy and has not found his way to my blog!

Here is a video in dishonor of HWSRN....

I Wanna Be Your Lover

Here is a video of Prince at age 19 performing “I Wanna Be Your Lover” and “Why You Treat Me So Bad” on American Bandstand. I will tell you right now, I am a Prince STAN, and in my book he can do no wrong…yes, even wearing gold lamae pants. Look at the body in that hair as it swings from side to side, I just love him (as she screams and plays video again)!

WTF?!?

Keep Austin Weird...This is the slogan of the city in which I live.…I don't know what it is about this place, but I like it. Most people know of 6th St and the Wharehouse district, which gained even more notoriety when the Real World came to town. Austin is a diverse city and people from all walks party together. It is not uncommon to go to a hip-hop concert and see the "Goths" in one corner, the young urban professionals in another, with your mix of WASP's. And don't get me started on the clubs, the hip-hop and "urban" clubs attract everyone, so there is nothing that is uniquely "black"...not unless you want to be deep in the cuts. Anyway some folks complain that there is nothing for black people to do in this city, but believe me there is something for everyone. But I want to tell you about the things (or at least one thing) that makes Austin "weird". One of Austin's most recognized residents is a homeless cross-dresser named Leslie Cochran. Leslie is the self-proclaimed Mayor of an area of Austin called "Tarrytown", who actually was included on the mayoral ballot of Austin in 2000 and 2003. In 2003, he actually came in 4th out of 5 candidates. Here in Austin, Leslie is a celebrity in his own right, and it is not unusual to see him walking the streets of downtown Austin, wearing no more than a bikini (thong that is). And believe me, this is a sight I've witnessed too many times. When People visit from out of town they all seem to have the same reaction when there's a Leslie sighting. That reaction being "WTF!?!" with mouth dropped, shortly followed by "Do you not see that?" It's not that we don't notice Leslie, but he is just "normal" to us Austinites. I guess the city's slogan is befitting.

Too see more of Leslie visit "her" Myspace page:

VY Brand

Well, I pray that Vince Young lives up to all the hype! Being that I went to UT and I actually had a few encounters "although did not associate" with Ricky Williams, I just have to hang my head in shame from time to time. I hope that VY can make this orangeblood proud! He has been ridiculed because of his throwing motion, Wonderlic score, and choice of representation. However, VY just may have been the smartest player in this years draft. As the #3 pick in this years draft, the total value of his NFL contract is greater than those inked by #1 pick Mario Williams and #2 pick Reggie Bush. Vince, also inked a deal with Reebok before signing his NFL contract, and Reebok has given him his own VY logo.

This is the Janet that I love! This is my favorite Ms. Jackson song!

Heavy Artillery!

Tyrell Owens

Tyrese

Alonzo Mourning

Michael Jai White

LL Cool J

Look at the gunz on these brothas!

I was up until 5am this past Sunday Morning watching Spawn…why I don’t know…but the point is I forgot just how fine Michael Jai White was until then. He has some gunz on him! So that inspired me to come up with my top 5 list of best arms. I don’t know why…but I love a man that looks like he can pick me up and throw me across a room (Yeah I know…I have some issues).

Let's Make Music!

Now this is a love song! When Barry (RIP) Sings "I'll take good care of you, that's what a man is supposed to do..."

Sho' you right!

Go Titans Go!

Being that I grew up near H-Town, I was an Oilers fan. When my beloved team moved to Tennessee, I followed and became a Titans fan. I would have liked to see Vince play for the Texans (who to me are not worthy of the name yet), but Tennessee is probably a good fit. I also like Lendale White so I am anxious to see how these two rookies will fair. I am also happy that Vince was able to agree to terms with the Titans before camp.

I can vote for 25 more years!

This is absurd! When will the Voting Rights Act become permanent! I hope Dubya does not think that he has done something great by renewing this act. The right to vote should not have an expiration date!

Are You Ready for Some Football?

I am a football aficionado. It is a sad day for me when the college and pro season ends. It would bring me great joy, if I could have football year round. Arena is good, but I don't like the short field of play. Now, I've read that there are talks of developing a spring pro league that would play at college venues and feature players from within that conference and surround regions. But the catch is, the player must have graduated from there respective institution and exhausted their college eligibility. I don't know...that does not seem to be the best available talent. I am all for education, but I can care less about a guys education off the field; I want to see the best you can give me in regards to on field performance. Below is the link to the Fox Sports Story. Tell me what you think.

Mariah Covers August Issue of Ebony

I love Mariah, I always have since she came on the seen with "Vision of Love". She is a true vocalist so I give her a pass with the whispery vocals and guest rap performances on almost every track. I don't care what anyone else thinks, MiMi is still one of the best! Click below for link to Ebony Cover Story.

Album Release Party 2 for Letoya

Apparently one was not enough, so there was another Album Release party for Letoya Luckett's self titled album in H-town. Her ex (or maybe not so ex) boo Slim Thugg was in the House, along with Big Baby, Mario Williams, Keshia Knight Pulliam, and her mom. For photos visit indmix.com at the link below.

Letoya's Self Titled Album Drops Tomorrow

Here is Mike Jones, Letoya, and SlimThugg at her album release party for Letoya. The album will be in stores tomorrow, but I will not be purchasing it. Don't get me wrong, I would like to see her make it being that she is from H-town and all, but the girl just cannot sing. But on the other hand, she is better than all the Cassie's out there. I just need all the tone-deaf children to sit down!
